Lattetown, a hand lettering project

The brief for this poster was set by art agent Lilla Rodgers in one of her MATS courses, and aimed to combine the use of the fonts you can see here with decorative illustration elements as an exercise in hand drawn typography.

The lettering is all hand drawn as per the brief, bringing a human element to the measured out letters.

For the style of the poster the brief specified to draw inspiration from vintage coffee bag packaging, which is how the darker green, golden yellow and coffee coloured maroon/red colour palette developed.

The content of the lettering I chose to develop into a nonsense piece, as the poster is purely decorative and I wanted to evoke a a feeling of surprise when a viewer reads the neatly laid out letters and finds something in contrast to that.
